The second youngest of 13 children, Dr. Stanleigh was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario. After graduating as an Ontario scholar, he continued his studies at the University of Toronto completing his Bachelor of Science (Biology), Masters in Science (research on Cystic Fibrosis) and Doctor of Dental Surgery.
In 1987, Dr. Stanleigh moved to Calgary with the Canadian Forces serving as Dental Officer with the Canadian Forces Dental Services and with NATO's ACE Mobile Force. Retired at the rank of Captain, Dr. Stanleigh took over his current practice from Dr. Roy Rasmussen in May, 1994. He also spent one year as a part time clinician at the Foothills Hospital Department of Oral Medicine.
Knowing that research leads to better dental care, Dr. Stanleigh practices based on the principles of modern preventive dentistry, evidence-based dentistry, and minimal invasive dentistry. To achieve this, he and his staff spend over 100 hours (over 2 weeks) each year travelling throughout North America to study with some of the worlds best clinicians, scientists and teachers.
Professionally, Dr. Stanleigh is a member of the Academy of Laser Dentistry, American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, Academy of General Dentistry, Federation Dentaire Internationale, Canadian Dental Association, Alberta Dental Association, Calgary and District Dental Society, American Association of Implant Prosthodontics, Calgary Nobel Biocare Implant Study Club, Aurum/LVI Study Club, Alpha Omega International Dental Fraternity and more. Dr. Stanleigh is a Master Aesthetic Dentist graduate of the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies and is listed in the 1999 Who's Who International of Professionals and the Who's Who International of Entrepreneurs.
In 2002, Dr. Stanleigh was appointed to the Advisory Committee for the Dental Assisting Diploma Program for the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology. In 2003, he was elected Vice-Chair for this committee, and will Chair the committee from 2004 to 2006.
In November, 2002 Dr. Stanleigh was elected President, Alpha Omega Foundation of Canada for a two year term. He is also the Co-Marshal organizing the 97th Alpha Omega International Dental Convention in Vancouver, BC for Dec. 25, 2004 to Jan. 1, 2005.
Personally, Dr. Stanleigh is a member of the Planetary Society, National Geographic Society, Royal Canadian Geographic Society, Alberta Historical Society, Canadian Automobile Association, Adventure Cycling Association, Calgary Zoo, B'nai Brith, Temple B'nai Tikvah congregation, various Apple computer groups, and the Star Trek, Star Wars and Babylon 5 fan clubs.
And most important of all, Dr. Stanleigh is married to Tina, and father of two daughters, Isabel and Samara.
